Description of Facilities

Each camp has been designed and constructed with Young Women camp in mind. However, other groups such as family reunions, father/son outings, or youth conferences may use an entire camp or portions of a camp according to their size and requirements. Brief descriptions are listed below.

For detailed descriptions and photos, please see our Facilities Matrix .

Main Pavilion
The covered pavilion includes seating for 250 on folding chairs, 8' folding banquet tables, a sound system with microphone and inputs for CD or cassette players and computers, a commercial-grade kitchen with a walk-in refrigerator and freezer, and indoor sleeping accommodations for sixteen persons in wooden bunk beds. (NOTE: The kitchen is not equipped with cooking or serving utensils. These are the responsibility of the users, along with dish soap, dish cloths, aluminum foil and other cooking supplies. The camp provides cleaning supplies, including rags, sprays, brooms and mops.) Only 16 people may sleep overnight. No tents or "open-air" sleeping areas are allowed around the pavilion. The main pavilion is often rented along with several campsites and used as the gathering place for large reunions or youth conferences.

Restrooms/Showers
There are adequate restroom facilities for all campers including flush toilets and sinks, private warm showers and restrooms designed for handicap accessibility. Some campsites have restroom facilities as a part of their pavilion, other campsites share a common restroom/shower building.

Amphitheater
Each camp includes a large outdoor amphitheater with bench seating for about 300-400, that can be used for large-group programs and firesides. The amphitheaters have a cement stage area in front, a flag pole, a fire ring with wood pile and electrical outlets. Camp hosts can provide a portable sound system to be used on the stage.

Food Preparation Areas
Each campsite is equipped with at least one covered cooking area which contains two propane stoves (3 burners each - propane provided), grill and griddle attachments and double-sink with hot and cold running water for food preparation and washing dishes. A home-sized refrigerator/freezer and metal racks are available in the storage room adjacent to each cooking area. The food preparation area is not equipped with cooking or serving utensils. These are the responsibility of the users, along with dish soap, dishcloths, aluminum foil and other cooking supplies. The camp provides cleaning supplies, including rags, sprays, brooms and mops. All Young Women groups required to share a campsite will have access to two food preparation areas.

Cabin Campsites
The cabins are arranged into "campsites" of two, three or four cabins each. Each cabin has 8 built-in bunk bed platforms, for a total of 16 beds. Thus, a campsite with three cabins will accommodate 48 people. Each platform measures 36" x 84" and does not have a mattress or padding. Campers should bring their own pads and sleeping bags. Each cabin includes a mirror, a whiteboard, a corkboard, overhead flourescent lights and two electric outlets.

Each campsite has a flagpole, a campfire ring with log benches (fire restrictions may apply — check with camp host), a food preparation area, and picnic tables for eating and other activities. Most 2-cabin and 4-cabin campsites also have a medium-sized pavilion. Most 4-cabin campsites come equipped with two food preparation areas, each of which has a sink, two propane stoves, and a refrigerator.

Flexibility

Camp Esther and Camp Lucy Mack Smith are adjacent to each other giving this area the added flexibility of being able to "share" camps. A large group with more than 250 campers might need, for instance, all 5 campsites Camp Esther and 2 campsites from Camp Smith, and could be scheduled along with a smaller group using the remaining 3 campsites from Camp Smith.

Parking
Busing is required for all Young Women stakes. Wards registered individually may transport young women by private vehicles or bus. Please refer to the Young Women stake busing policy.

Youth Conferences larger than 40 participants leaving from a common area are strongly encouraged to secure commercial bus transportation. All other groups may arrive in private vehicles. All those coming to camp are encouraged to carpool in order to minimize the number of vehicles.

After unloading, drivers of private vehicles will be asked to park in one of the remote parking areas for the duration of camp.
